Second Dose of Covid Vaccine

When you are sick, the first thing you do is visit the hospital and see a doctor. The doctor on duty prescribes you some medicines and you obediently take the advice of a doctor in taking the prescribed medicines. In some cases, you will be asked to receive a jab to which you will graciously follow the order and receive one. All are done to subside the pain and to overcome the diseases that are infected in us without having a second thought of questioning the doctors dictating on us. And to all surprise, no doctors in the whole world, intentionally prescribe wrong drugs to their patients. They know what they are doing for they are professionally trained for it.

Now, who are we to question the 2nd dose of vaccine when the doctors are stating, it is safe to take the jab even the first jab was Pfizer. What credibility do we have to doubt the Moderna vaccine when our Prime Minister was the first recipient and announces that there is a proven study of Moderna vaccine.

Bhutan has been recognized amazingly by the international community for successfully vaccinating the whole population in a week. The appreciation and learning from one of the smallest countries was praised all over social media and some mainstream media. Many donor countries came forward in doing their part for the second dose. Bhutan received Moderna Vaccines from the USA, AstraZeneca Vaccines from Denmark, and Sinopharm Vaccines from China. Never to forget, the Indian government has donated the 1st dose of vaccines to Bhutan. As India is the worst-hit country, in this situation, the vaccines they produce are insufficient for themselves to which, His Majesty the king has constantly reminded our government that we can’t ask for any aid at this time, instead we should help them in whatever means.

Bhutan will vaccinate the entire population starting from 20th July for a period of 7 days. People will be given a choice of vaccine amongst 3 vaccines even though the recommendation was to take the Moderna vaccine for 2nd Jab.

I did receive my 2nd dose of vaccine on 23rd July 2021 at Sherabling School. People were lined up before the time. Tokens were distributed and I received (42). Standing in the line, I can hear some discussion about the vaccines they prefer. The crust of all is “Lyonchen tsuk khan rang dak tu”. Token no. 42 was called finally. I did enter the room where ladies with smiles (under their masks) welcomed me to have a seat. Some random questions were asked after providing my CID no. My answers were all NO, which means I am eligible for vaccination. There, I didn’t have the guts to ask what vaccine I would be jabbing with nor did the ladies offered any choice. I was then asked to enter the other room where the injection was going on. I quietly sat on the chair, relaxed, and got my share of the dose (9;20AM). Nor did the injector say anything about the type. I feel it’s Mordena vaccine that I got (feeling optimistic).

The post-vaccine was very tough for me. It started giving pain in my arm. Had a severe fever around 2:30 AM. I had a PCM (3 tablets) and the next day, it was very painful for me. The whole day I spent taking nap. Today, the 3rd day, some headache with minor pain on my arm still persists. I feel the vaccine is taking its course of action to coexist with my immune system to resist Covid-19.

With the 2nd dose of vaccines in Bhutan, I hope all will be safe and wish this pandemic ends soon. May peace prevails.
