Decent Salary – Homeless
Dedicated civil servants drawing their monthly
salary cannot build their own house when he superannuates from their job. A
time will come for everyone to leave the place we live now and call it home. A
moment will knock sooner than our realization that we should leave with nothing
in hand. The experience or the certificates that you have earned during those
long years of service will not help at that moment. Nor the reputations shall
aid you to proceed further.
A
salary that hardly meets the monthly expenditure can’t afford to save to
construct a house. Many decent civil servants superannuate after certain age OR
after serving for certain years and ultimately return back to their own village
which was once abandoned. For all his life, a setup office with a laptop/pen/paper
was the only tool handled and out of the blue moon, he was introduced to the
farming life. This situation is alarming to me personally and it is happening
to many civil servants. You invest all your energy in the growth of the company
and when your service is no longer needed OR when you are not that energetic to
handle the pressure, you are kicked out without any regard.
In
the present scenario, the savings one makes in one's lifetime, we can’t afford
to own a decent plot of land (13 decimal) in any heart town area. The prices of
land are skyrocketing and the whole life savings of one can’t afford to own a
plot.
For
those who own buildings/houses, you will notice that majority belongs to a
businessman. Seldom are the possibilities that they are owned through
inheritance.
Bhutanese
have little or no sense of savings, unlike other countries. We were brought up
that way and we have that installed in our mindset. The time has reached for
every Bhutanese to have a sense of saving and for the government to hike the
perks of civil servants for them to manage the afterlife of civil servants.
I
feel that all deserve to own a small house after they depart from the company
or government service to settle down and spend the rest of their life
comfortably. Relying on the salary alone will drive through the tough time
resulting homeless until there is some mechanism to increase the perks along
with the market inflation.
May
the cry of all be heard by the highest bureaucrats and do change the system to
have it occupied.
