Towards Wangdue – Quarantine

Vehicles in Line
9th January 2020, there was a call from 1010 informing me of readying for traveling to Wangdue, Bajo. The movement pass was shared in my Whatsapp with validity till 12:40 PM. I was directed to report in front of Changlimithang ground entrance where there will be vehicles of stranded people who will be escorting towards Punakha and Wangdue for quarantine.

I managed to pack and load the things into my car before time. Bid farewell to the hosts and thanked them for their services. Upon reaching the spot, there were hundreds of vehicles lined up. Deesups are verifying the vehicles along with passengers. Every time we have to produce the E-movement card and proof that we are legally allowed to move. At around 1:30 PM, we proceeded towards Wangdue/Punakha. All vehicles in line with Deesups in front and Deesups at Last, takes us to a feeling of criminal so that we are not mixed with other public/we are not gone in the other directions.

On the way, we are stooped at every checkpoint and we are to repeat the same proof to every stop. Every vehicle maintain the same speed (40-45 km/h) which took us about 5 hours to reach Wangdue. When we reached Lobesa, we were segregated into two groups. The Punakha group was lined on the left side of the road and Wangdue on the right side. Deesups were verifying for the last time if we are really sent legally. Deesup from Wangdue led our group towards Wangdue. I thought it would be at Bajo town but when we reached the tri-junction it was diverted towards Wangdue-Trongsa highway. That wonders me, where could be our destination which came to my thought if it could be at Tancholing Army camp.

Room - 206
Finally, here we are when we were stopped by the Traffic police just below the Wangdue Lower Secondary School. There came another verification. We were directed to Tashiling Hotel which is located below Wangdue School. I was provided with the family room, a room with one double bed, and one single bed (Room 206). There is an attached bathroom and the room is spacious.

Before entering the room, we were briefed by the Deesup:

- We are not allowed to open the window.

Dinner Served

- We are not allowed to open the window curtain.

- All the waste to be dumped in the red plastic provided.

- No service of pick and drop.

All in all, I am lucky to have selected in the first batch because we have stepped one ladder to our destination-HOME. Many are there waiting for a call and I can imagine their feeling when they have stayed for 21 days with their host. Today, Thimphu has completed 21 days lockdown period only to extend for 14 more days as announced by PM. Today also marks the highest detected case of 39 positive cases in Bhutan.

I hope, seven days will flow smoothly.
