Lhabap Duechen
31st October, 22nd Day of Lunar Calendar is celebrated as Lhabap Duechen OR Descending day of Lord Buddha. Buddhists believe that it is on this day, after the repeated requests from his disciples Buddha, descended to Earth and bless the sentient beings. The day is very important in our country and is declared OFF. All Schools, Government Offices, Hospitals and all offices of Stakeholders remain closed. This is to mark the importance of Lord Buddha and to accumulate oneself of good merits. It is a very religious day for dedicating oneself towards virtuous deeds. The benefits or the merits of all good deeds are believed to be multiplied by several times and also the same effect for harmful/negative deeds. It is an opportunity for all to grab it and accumulate the merits for the bad deeds we have done unknowingly.
Many visits Lhakhangs, Dzongs, Chortens, Rabdeys, etc to offer their prayers. Pure in their heart they genuinely pray for the wellbeing of all sentient beings.
In a Local way, I offered my prayers in my Alter, lit a Butter Lamp for the peace and prosperity in this world. I wish and hope for the sufferings and pains for others to be bestowed on me and in return, the little peace I possessed be showered upon them. I pray for the animals who sacrificed their lives for the greedy humans, be reborn in a good realm and wish all be a vegetarian. We are so selfish in a way that we eat flesh for our survival. Which actually is killing someone and eating for us to live. How selfish are we? Who wants to die before death? Who wants to be killed?
Anyways, we proceeded to Samcholing Lhakhang where Drupchen is being conducted from the little contribution we have made. We spent our day in a very satisfying mood. Hundreds gathered there to offer their sincere prayer, and I was wondering if Buddha could speak and tell those to “Be Vegetarian”.
Nationally, the 1st sitting of 3rd Parliament is being conducted. The session saw the Elected Members take Oath of Affirmation of Office in front of Golden Throne and the Speaker and Dy. Speaker was elected. MP-elect from Nyishog_Saephu Wangchuk Namgyel elected as the Speaker and Kabji_Talog MP-elect Tshencho Wangdi was elected as the Dy. Speaker. That marked a very auspicious occasion and wish the 3rd parliament members a very successful tenure.
