Social Forestry Day

June 2nd every year, coinciding with the coronation day of our 4th Druk Gyalpo, Social Forestry Day is celebrated in our country. The nation comes together to celebrate with the plantation of the sapling and making our green Bhutan even greener. Our constitution mandates us to preserves (at all times) 60 percent of its land under forest cover. It is now to the people of Bhutan to uphold the constitution by planting trees.
Readying for the plantation

With the construction sector booming and more hydropower sector coming up, more and more trees are destroyed. June 2nd reminds us of the importance of forest and the very true meaning of the Bhutanese. The people of Bhutan participates in the plantation collaborating with the sectors/institutions.

Similarly, the staff of MHPA residing in Dam Colony has carried out the plantation in the Dumping Yard of Adit-IV & Adit-V. A total of 20 participants came together under the leadership of Samten Sir (EE, SED) for the plantation. Actually, we have done a plant propagation, where the branches of a tree which is called cuttings or stem cuttings are planted. The basic principle of these is that it will allow us to multiply the trees from a single tree.

A total of 1500+ cuttings were planted in Adit-IV yard and almost 1000+ at Adit-V. The site was too steep but the team was dedicated to plant all the cuttings stacked by the SED team. Refreshments and Lunch were served at Adit-V. In the meantime, we also made a quick visit to Adit-V and then to Butterfly valve chamber.

My only hope is that all the cuttings will grow and serve the purpose of holding the Muck intact.
