THP HRT Rectification Work

In
this current situation, Bhutan is solely dependent on Hydropower generation for
the government to function after the closure of Tourism. Hydropower sectors
cannot afford to lose time without generation and every hydropower plant in
Bhutan is striving to live up to that standard. Unfortunately, Tala Hydropower
Plant (THP), the largest power plant with a generating capacity of 1020MW has
got some issues wherein the experts believe to be the issue related to HRT
(Head Race Tunnel). A chunk of concrete was found inside the MIV (Main Inlet
Valve) to which the decision of dewatering the water conductor system and
rectifying was planned.
As
part of the manpower arrangement, I was nominated as a site engineer from MHPA.
The news came as a surprise for me during the eleventh hour. The notice was
circulated on 30th December 2021 that I should report to Tala
on 2nd January 2022. For this kind of assignment, an individual
needs to have mentally prepared. Anyhow, I take it up as a challenge and want
to do my part. I feel there are no better ways/means to serve the nation when
in need. This is the first of its kind in our country and this may be the last
of its kind. So why not take up the best opportunity in learning new things and
meeting new faces.
Surprisingly,
I was told to take up my beddings (mattress, blankets) and even to the point of
taking our own plates and mugs. That gave me a feeling that I may be dumped in
a hall with lots of people where there is a common mess during which we have to
make a line for meals. These feelings took me to those times where we prepare
for a boarding life. I sincerely packed my clothing, emptied my single bed, and
packed my plate/mug/spoon. The weird feeling of leaving Dangdung, my place of
stay has given me goosebumps because I don’t know when I will be able to return
back, although the schedule for the rectification work on paper is three
months.
Nevertheless,
this is the call of the nation and all the people of Bhutan are eying on this
project, which should be delivered on time or before time. I learned Bhutan is
losing a revenue of Nu. 850 Million during this period of shutdown.
I am sure I will discharge my duties diligently and make this project a successful one. For this to happen I urge all my families/friends to pray for the successful completion of the rectification works and to KEN-CHO-SUM I submit my homage for the safety of all those people involved in this project.
