Reporting to THP - 1st Day

Representing MHPA at THP

It was on this day (02.01.2022), Sunday when everyone is in deep sleep and some may be dreaming because our sleep seems so sweet in the morning hours, I was awake as early as 4:00 AM. I have done the cleaning and arranging the things out (some perishable to be thrown out), checking my Gas, checking my switches to be OFF because I was not sure when I will return. The time-bound as per paper is three months which I am optimistic that it will be completed as planned.

As discussed, the driver has timely turned up at 5:30 AM and surprisingly the street lights turned off at 5:00 AM. It was still dark when we started loading my bedding. We started our journey leaving Dangdung with emptiness dragging me. But one point I was very excited that I am representing MHPA in a larger forum. I feel lucky to have been nominated and contribute in whatsoever little way.

Ascending towards Palela pass, it was so refreshing with thick blankets of snow-capped on the trees and drizzling with the gentle breeze. Descending down, the same thick white snow along the roadside greeted us and the cool breeze made our hearts chill. The same was repeated when we ascend and descend the Dochula Pass.

Thimphu city has always remained beautiful with bustling cars and pedestrians walking sideways. Sometimes it gives me a thought that wonders what are they up to. Every man and woman seems busy, some to the extent of making TikTok. Some are busy walking hands-hands and others with eyes on their phones.

Down to the Damchu bypass, some stretches seem dangerous and known fact why the road remain closed during summer. As instructed, I called HR, THP for direction and I was told to report to the site. I did as instructed and met HR. When asked where I am stationing, HR has no answer. With the support of my senior official, I manage to get one room at the CHP guest house.

Due to many activities, small nitty-gritty is overlooked. That small thing matters the most to those first-timers to the new place and meeting new people. What people first look for is a shed to stay in and a place to eat. If these two are taken care of, 80% of the work is done.

I hope the system is improved for the next lot of people who will be joining THP for the times to come.
