Life of Site Engineer
It was 6:30 AM in the morning,
The tired body is forced to open my eyes,
With sleepy eyes freshened with cold water,
Cleansed surfacely, rinsed coldly,
There, a driver was patiently waiting for my arrival,
Greeting with a broad smile on his face, of course, sleepy face,
Riding down to the site,
Crossed the bailey bridge with security doing their job,
Further down crossing the gate,
Where the security looks at me, checks who else inside,
Sometimes, my thought wanders, "they should know me by now,"
But then they are mandated to do so,
I gave my smile, and they let us through,
Passing the Dam makes me visit it once,
There, I reach the mess where people are dining,
I was greeted and offered a seat for breakfast,
All are called for a gathering,
Which they termed as TBT (Tool Box Talks),
Groups were formed for doing a particular job,
Briefing on today's program and safety issues were discussed,
Vans, Tractors, and Thukrals are means for transportation,
Here, we all are inside the tunnel;
All are dedicated to the works,
Chemical treatment there, shuttering here,
Concreting there, Anchoring here,
All of a sudden, a call for mechanical issues,
Electrical issues, breakdown problems,
Attending one problem, there are issues somewhere,
Then comes a tea break, when one shouts Tea, Tea,
A little break for tea and people are seen talking,
Resuming back, the sound of chipping, air compressor, pump,
All are doing their part in every way possible,
There comes a lunch break,
Some complained of the menu,
Others enjoying the same,
I am to remind them not to litter around,
And cleaning the dishes at last,
There we head to our work,
Here and there, I walk,
Connect them with the work schedule,
Boost them with kind words,
There we progress together,
We break for evening tea,
And there we discuss of the issues,
And resume our work,
The time to call a day off,
Make sure no one is left behind,
All are on the way out of the tunnel,
There I am making one last round,
Checking the progress, noting the work,
Then I call my day off,
Outside, all the programs/progress are noted in DPR,
Scan and attached to the group for review,
Then I am off to my room.
That's the life of the site engineer.
