Farewell to SE HRT

Image
The venue is set for the big night Looking at the gathering and the number of the heads turn-outs from various complexes, I can sense how much the night is significant, that definitely signifies how much Gurung sir was attached to us.  In a time-bound project like this which has it’s own START and END date, everyone shall have a share of departing with one another. But it’s unfortunate when we lose some of the great leaders at this juncture when the project is on the verge of completion.  Addressing Farewell speech Gurung sir has joined MHPA from DoR and served in the capacity of Executive Engineer of Dam before he got a lateral transfer to HRT as Superintending Engineer. He is leaving for a good reason and for a greater career in a consultancy based at Phuntsholing.  I know everyone will agree with me when I say, he is a great leader who leads and motivates the team; A great friend who lends his helping hand; A great key player who is a game-changer. He is loved by

Final Walk in the Tunnel

Image
Inspecting Adit-I Gate When the people of India were anxiously waiting for the Election results to announce with excitement and doubtful face and when Bhutanese people wait for the opening ceremony of 2nd session of the 3rd Parliament where His Majesty will be gracing the occasion; it was where the group of 15 people that comprises the representatives of NHPC, DGPC, DHPS, MHPA (HRT, PMG, QA/QC, and Geology) prepares heading to the HRT Tunnel for the very last time. Helmets on top, Gumboots were worn and a Torch each at hand proceeds to Adit-I. I can sense the fake smiles on every individual and can make out what if the Gates of the Intake is open when all were inside the Tunnel? What could be the situation after discharging? Will it be slippery? Will there be flowing water?  Dead Fish Nowhere, the HRT is observed after dewatering and I knew that all are experiencing for the first time. It made it a rare opportunity for us to see the tunnel after it was charged and that beca

Happy Birthday Sister

Sis Yeshi Lhamo  As you turn a year older and step to a new ladder of your life, I wish you all the happiness and joys accompany you and make you many more years older with sound health. May God bless you and showers you with success and beautiful path in your life. I am sending you lots of love and smiles on this special day. Enjoy the day and make every moment counts. The day you were born, I was in my class (Class-VI) and when I heard of the news I rushed to greet you during the interval time. It was so nice to welcome you and that makes five of us. You were so tiny little angel in my eyes and you became so special to me. I used to carry you and babysit you every day. I don’t remember a single time that we argue unlike with Ana Kinzang. I have that moment when we were alone and I am to take care of you for a week or so, that I’ve no idea of cooking. You complained of the daily food I used to feed you. The only thing I was comfortable that time was making Puri with a

With English Premier League season 2018-2019 coming to an end and Manchester City FC lifting the 2019 title, we had a group of 36 members participating in the EPL predictions. A total of 38 weeks were played and the fee deposited per week was Nu. 100/- which come to Nu. 3800/- for the whole season. The season lasts for a year. Drinks time with hot discussion Top-3 with the highest points were awarded a cash prize of Nu. 25,000/-, 15,000/- & 10,000 respectively. CSTians In MHPA-Gathering

Image
"Coming together is a beginning; Keeping together is progress; Working together is a success." CSTians in MHPA The time passed by without any signs of its presence and by the time we realize, it would be too late for us to rejuvenate the bygone days. It's my 7th year in MHPA. I have been placed in HRT Complex since from the beginning and it has been my responsibilities to perform my duties within the boundaries assigned to me. Likewise, all the staff has their own limitation to act on and to carry on the works pertaining to the complex. It has become so hard for us to meet and share our experiences. Needless to say, even within our own division we seldom meet together. Meeting together enhances our bond to the next level. It gives us the platform to know the individual even better. It boosts the warmth and refines the relationship, that will sail all through thick and thin.  Dinner Time I am getting a feeling that the CSTians are all over Bhutan. Name any

Acquainting with SKETCH UP

Image
1. Adit-II Portal Getting myself accustomed to the toolbars and the preferences that we are availed when using the Sketchup setup file, I am getting some of the shapes (readily available) at sight into reality. It took me for a while in getting used to the punch keys and then to create into a 3D imaginary drawings. It's the intrusion that I followed in getting me to learn the usage of the software. It was difficult at first place in getting into the required shape and size. Gradually it made it somewhat possible and looked like the shape I presumed I was creating.  2. Adit-II Plug Started with the chairs and tables while at the site. I used to measure the length and width of the table (even the thickness) to create it. I studied some of the shortcuts and eventually came to create the buildings. It gives me immense pleasure to re-create the things that are close to me. Therefore, I went on to create my Adit-II Portal and then Adit Plug and I consider it as a Tribute fo

Dewatering of HRT

With the filling of the reservoir and successfully charging the HRT, and with the water level reaching MDDL of 1730 m; the seepage of various Adits (I, II, III, IV & V) are monitored regularly by installing V-Notch. The readings of the discharge have been found alarming by the concerned authority and the decision of dewatering/emptying the HRT has been finalized. The decision was implemented forming a special committee for strict monitoring and ensuring the success of dewatering activity in HRT. Prior to the above decision from the chairman, the management of MHPA has written to the chairman stating the risks associated while draining out the water and to wait till September-2019 so that the water level at the reservoir would be decreased substantially. It even went on to explain that the seepage observed at the various Gates are not imposing any structural damage threat to the project and the drawdown of the water level in HRT shall be posing much more risks for the concrete

Teachers' Day

Image
His Majesty the late king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck was known as the Father of Modern Bhutan. His Majesty opened the door of Bhutan to the outside world. He introduced motor road system in our country, Phuntsholing-Thimphu being the first one constructed by DANTAK. He also opened many schools around the country and propagated the importance of education. It is said that each household was made to send one child for schooling. Even then some household used to hide their children when the officials come for registration of the children. Many avoid sending them for schooling because they want them for working in the field. It was understood that the Girls are to help the mother in doing the household work and Boys to help the father. Moreover, parents are not aware of the future after schooling. It is also due to the language problem since mostly the teachers are from India.  Nevertheless, some of the bright students were sent to India, mainly to Kalimpong and those were holding the be
